About the Troop
10th Harpenden Scout Troop is one of the largest and most active Troops in the District - there are currently about 45 Scouts, and 2 warranted leaders as well as two parent helpers and three young leaders.
Our weekly meetings are very varied, but normally include several games, some time for learning Scouting skills, and a longer activity, such as challenges, cooking, wide games, quizes in the local area, etc. At the end of each week, the older Scouts stay on longer to have some time on their own.
Camping & Trips
In addition to the programme of weekly meetings, there are also several camps & trips throughout the year:
Spring Camp
Two/three nights over the early May bank holiday
Juniors Camp
A weekend camp for just the younger Scouts, in June
Summer Camp
This is the highlight of the year - normally 7 nights at the beginning of the Summer holidays.
Cycling weekend
This normally takes place in early October
Activities
We try to organise extra activities for the older Scouts.
You can read about some of these here.
What these are depends on what the current older Scouts want to do -
some of the things we have done or are currently planning are:
Gilwell Winter Camp
Master-at-Arms course (Air Rifle shooting)
Green Beret (county hiking/orienteering competition)
Welwyn District Night Incident Hike
Seniors camp - which they organise for themselves
